//**This page is in the 'old' namespace, and was imported from our previous wiki. We recommend checking for more up-to-date information using the search box.**// ====== Greenstone Language Support ====== There are several different levels of Greenstone language support. ===Core languages=== English, French, Spanish, and Russian are Greenstone core languages. For these there is a full translation, including interface, documentation, sample collections, and installation instructions. They have been produced in conjunction with UNESCO and are distributed with all versions of Greenstone, including the CD-ROM version. They are updated whenever the CD-ROM is re-issued (so far, approximately once a year). ===Supported languages=== The Greenstone interface has been translated into many languages. However, the system is growing and language interfaces become out-dated as new features are added to the software. For each language, we are hoping to find a [[Information_for_language_maintainers |volunteer]] who undertakes to periodically maintain the interface for that language. Typically only the Greenstone interface is translated, but for some languages the Greenstone Librarian Interface and other documentation is also translated. ===In progress== For some languages, a translator has volunteered, but the translated interface is not yet available. When you download Greenstone, all the language interfaces come automatically. (For UNESCO CD-ROMS, only English, French, Spanish and Russian are activated. To activate the others, please see the "Enabling other languages" section of the [[http://wiki.greenstone/wiki/gsdoc/tutorial/en/update_greenstone_installation.htm|Updating a Greenstone installation]] tutorial.) Multilingual facilities are only maintained for the latest version of Greenstone. Users who have an older version without the desired language should upgrade to the latest version. Note that some language interfaces are incomplete; non-updated text appears in English.
